Confirming a diagnosis of FIP remains a challenge to veterinarians, and causes frustration and heartache to owners. These researchers have investigated a new technology for FIP diagnosis using the body cavity effusions often present in cases of FIP. The collected samples from cats with FIP as well as cats with other disease conditions.
They found that this technology which assesses cellular and protein content of the effusions was useful for aiding diagnosis even if the sample were not tested immediately after collection.
This provides one more tool in the diagnostic arsenal to accurately confirm the presence of FIP.
